  Backup Policy

The SolidSpace Backup Policy describes the schedule and process for protecting data stored on SolidSpace Windows and Linux customer servers. We back up files and data on all servers for two reasons:

  • To provide fast recovery of servers in the event of the hardware/software failure or physical disaster.
  • To provide a measure of protection against human error or the inadvertent deletion of important files.

This policy describes the schedule and process for protecting data stored on SolidSpace Windows and Linux customer servers.

To provide for these services the files on each system are regularly copied to a recovery storage medium and retained for periods of time at both the SolidSpace server facility and an off-site storage facility.

The process adopted by SolidSpace uses best practice backup principals to provide for the following:

  • Daily full backup
  • Weekly full backup
  • Daily backups are retained for three days
  • Weekly backups are retained for three weeks

All backups are verified and exception reports of missed scheduled backups are worked on the following business day by a member of the server team to ensure that the backups are corrected. This scheme allows systems to be restored in the event of a disaster. Individual files can be restored providing they were present on the system during a backup operation.

Security
Data security is a primary concern for SolidSpace and its customers, including the backup of critical and confidential data.

  • The first level of security on the SolidSpace backup servers is physical. All servers are installed in secure metal cabinets that have locking doors on both the front and back which are unlocked only when SolidSpace employees require access to the servers in the cabinet. Only authorized SolidSpace employees have access to the cabinets that contain our customer severs.

Date Protection Guidelines
The SolidSpace backup policy protects any drive or partition containing the following:

  • System State
  • The Linux operating system (/boot, /root, /bin, /sbin, /usr, /home, /www, /opt, /etc)
  • Application that are installed based on the Server agreement with the client (SQL, IIS, Site Server, Apache, etc)
  • Data

The SolidSpace standard backup policy DOES NOT protect any drive or partition containing:

Windows

  • Log files from IIS and Site server
  • Statistics server log files

Linux

  • Log files generated by Mail, Syslog, etc.
  • Statistics logs files from Apache

SQL Server Backup Policy
The default maintenance plan on a dedicated SQL server/SQL cluster will include daily backups for the system databases, and weekly optimizations of the system databases. The SQL databases are dumped to backup files, and these backup files are then copied to the backup servers. The customer can request a specific maintenance plan and we will work with the client to implement the plan. If a low drive space issue occurs because of a database maintenance plan implemented by a customer designed or implemented maintenance plan, a member of our DBA team will contact the customer. The DBA will then try to work out a backup plan that will fit the customer's configuration. If no plan can be made to work properly, the DBA will work with the customer ways to add to the configuration to make it work properly.

Requesting a File Restore
In the event you delete a file that is stored on a server and that was on the file server during a scheduled backup, then a restore can be requested by creating a ticket by logging in at the top of this page or by placing a call to the SolidSpace Service number (336.201.5656 or toll free 1.888.340.0020) and providing the following information:

Customer name, phone number, and e-mail address so you can be notified once the file is restored. The exact name of the file that needs restoring (for example c:/inetpub/file.ext) and the date the file should be restored from (must be within the last three days or last three Sundays).

The file will be restored to its location before it was deleted unless otherwise specified by the customer.
